The Albanese Government has unveiled a landmark housing initiative, injecting $182 million into infrastructure to facilitate the construction of 25,000 homes across New South Wales. Dubbed the “biggest home building program in Australian history,” the Housing Support Program aims to address the nation’s growing housing demand while supporting critical infrastructure development.
Minister for Housing and Homelessness Clare O’Neil emphasized the importance of this program:“These announcements might not be the sexiest, but if we want to drastically increase the number of homes we are building in Australia, we need to invest in the pipes, sewage, and roads that support this.”
O’Neil acknowledged the challenges many Australians face in attaining homeownership: “I know that so many Australians are feeling utterly despondent about the possibility of owning their own home, but Labor has a plan to bring homeownership back into reach for hundreds of thousands of people.”

Key Projects Under the Program
The funding will be allocated to nine projects that span critical urban and regional areas, including:
Parramatta: $10.1 million to unlock 14,700 homes, including new pedestrian connections and green spaces.
Schofields: $13 million for a new road, intersection, and bridge to enable 235 homes.
Kempsey: $45 million for water and sewer infrastructure to unlock 430 homes.
Marulan: $27.2 million to upgrade wastewater treatment and unlock 400 homes.
Lake Wyangan (Griffith): $10 million for stormwater drainage, road realignments, and other works enabling 500 homes.
Stuarts Point: $45 million for a pressure sewer system and wastewater treatment for 40 homes.
Moruya: $4 million for a roundabout and water/sewer upgrades enabling 45 homes.
Cessnock: $22.1 million for road and utility upgrades, unlocking 900 homes.
Dulwich Hill: $6.2 million for an active transport tunnel connecting two GreenWay links, supporting 7,800 homes

A Broader Vision for Housing
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the government’s broader vision:“Today we are announcing an additional $182 million to unlock an additional 25,000 homes across New South Wales. This comes on top of major announcements to upgrade infrastructure across Western Sydney and the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.”
This announcement forms part of the $32 billion Homes for Australia Plan, aiming to deliver 1.2 million new homes over five years. In addition, $304.3 million has already been allocated for infrastructure and social housing, with $22.3 million directed toward fast-tracking planning processes.

Boosting Homeownership and Community Growth
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King emphasized the significance of these investments:“From Parramatta to Eurobodalla, Dulwich Hill to Kempsey, we’re turbocharging housing supply by delivering the infrastructure Australia needs. We can’t all rely on the bank of Mum and Dad, which is why the Albanese Labor Government is making it easier for people to build or buy their own home.”
Member for Parramatta Andrew Charlton noted the program’s transformative impact on Parramatta:“Parramatta is where Australia’s story began, and today, it’s where our future is being built. This investment lays the groundwork for a stronger, more connected Parramatta—a thriving hub where families can grow, businesses can prosper, and communities can flourish.”

A Nation Moving Forward
The Albanese Government’s housing program underscores a commitment to tackling the housing affordability crisis while fostering sustainable urban and regional development. With infrastructure at its core, the initiative not only aims to deliver homes but also to build resilient and connected communities across Australia.
